The FLUFFY FOUNDATION was formed to keep our Baby Boy FLUFFY with us; here is his story:
Our world changed permanently, as we were given a crash course in animal cancer on April 13, 2016. Our baby boy (FLUFFY) (Our son who just happens to have 4 paws) had not been feeling well or being himself so we took him to the vet thinking it was a virus or something simple like that. Boy were we wrong, we were devastated when our vet advised us that FLUFFY had Liver cancer. But the only way to be sure was to cut him open and get a biopsy, we couldn't put him through that pain for the what if. But we also couldn't just stand by and watch him suffer, not knowing what options we had if any. So once we got home and regained our composure we started researching thinking there has to be a better way, less invasive way to find out, what exactly we are facing. Low and behold there is another way which was a needle biopsy and was available thru South Carolina Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Care in Columbia.
We made an appointment for FLUFFY on April 18, 2016, this is where we met Oncologist Dr Sara Fritz who was a wealth of knowledge and such a caring and compassionate person for animals and most important our Baby FLUFFY. Unfortunately, she advised FLUFFY has lymphoma cancer of the stomach. (His liver was fine) This form of lymphoma is very aggressive with no known cure. They could do surgery to remove it, unfortunately she doesn't think they can get it all since there is 10-12 different growths on his stomach. So our options were do surgery with a very slim chance of removing it all and a life span of maybe 3-6 months to live (with 3-6 weeks of this time for recovery) or 6-12 weeks without surgery. Unfortunately, we don't think it is fair to make him suffer that much for such a small chance of full removal, so we went with no surgery. We want him here with us as long as possible but with as little pain as possible.
So after, accepting this and truly not wanting or ready to let our baby go. We decided to keep him alive thru the FLUFFY FOUNDATION! This is our way to keep him alive and with us, all the while helping to find a cure for Pet and Human cancer alike! We will be raising money for animal cancer research to hopefully help find a cure for animal cancer and save another family from going thru what we have been through. So we started researching for an organization to donate the funds to, but more importantly we wanted to know the funds would indeed be used for cancer research. So we called Oncologist Dr Sara Fritz who gave us the names of two research organizations that SHE personally has worked with in cancer research. So we know these were the one(s) for our FLUFFY FOUNDATION! Although both organizations are great at what they do; We have ultimately chosen to donate to Morris Animal Foundation for all of the proceeds of the FLUFFY FOUNDATION!
Unfortunately, FLUFFY lost his battle to Lymphoma Cancer on May 10, 2016, What a sad, dark day in our lives. Our Baby boy FLUFFY'S life was cut short by the devastating disease called Cancer. In less than six (6) weeks, cancer took our Baby Boy. Help us fight the cause, and keep FLUFFY alive, thru the FLUFFY FOUNDATION to get this horrible disease stopped from affecting other family and friends that affects our loved ones, family our pets!!!
We NEVER realized the impact that cancer has on pets and owners until now. As we tell our friends about our experience with FLUFFY the more we realize; so many of our friends have been affected by the horrible thing called Cancer! So this along with the love and passion for our baby boy FLUFFY is why we are starting the FLUFFY FOUNDATION! So we are asking for your help in securing funds to help find a cure for Animal Cancer!
